Preparing for your meeting with a Remodeling Company

July 27, 2009 · 1 Comment

Happy Monday everyone!

I feel it’s critical to educate our customers and others about ways to prepare for meetings with home improvement companies so the process is pleasant not stressful. Of course, as in all relationships, open communication is the key to success.

Some suggestions on topics to discuss with companies during your first conversation and/or meeting:

• A convenient time for all decision makers to meet with the contractor.
• If you have a deadline or a time specific time frame for the completion of the job – i.e. having a baby, selling your home, having a graduation party, getting married, etc.
• Do you need a ballpark idea of what the project will cost so you can determine how you will pay for the project or if you have a budget.
• If you live in a historical neighborhood.

I would welcome any additional suggestions from contractors or consumers to add to this list. Urban Referrals is in business to make the process of connecting consumers and contractors as stress free and pleasant as possible.

Thank you -
Marla

A Reason to Spend

October 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Credit Crunch, Recession, even Depression are words that seem to dominate the news. During “times like this” everyone could use something that makes them feel better, may I dare say, even happy. Shopping ALWAYS makes me feel better. Maybe it’s because I am a women (sorry ladies) but as I tell my husband, spending spurs economic growth. And who doesn’t want that?

The Remodeling Cost vs. Value Report 2007 says that for a minor kitchen remodel of $21,185 that you can expect to re-coup 82.7% of the cost and for a bathroom remodel of $15,789 you can expect to re-coup 78.8% of the cost. Try getting that value from a pair of Jimmy Choo’s!

Investing in your home is a good thing. Markets will re-bound and housing prices will go back up. Spend money with your contractor today and you too can contribute to our GNP.
